The Vaults Theatre present their most exciting line-up yet! Look out for THREE high-energy, powerful, underground productions launched this September 2022, offering an unrivalled theatrical experience beneath Waterloo station this Autumn/Winter.
STRANGER SINGS!
Dates: Oct 5 2022 – Jan 15 2022
I was kindly invited to attend the press launch night of Stranger Sings! and boy was I in for a REAL TREAT! I didn’t really know what to expect as comedy is not really my bag but what drew my attention was that this wasn’t a comedy show nor a panto, but a real theatrical performance with lots of humour. What better way to enjoy a parody than picking out one of the most popular TV shows trending right now.

The cast were absolutely amazing and EXTREMELY TALENTED!
They all have fantastic vocals – they even looked and sounded like the real deal! The cast is made up of 9 actors who interchange between 1 to 3 different characters throughout the performance.. like I said, extremely talented. It’s amazing how they managed to squeeze so many seasons of Stranger Things into one performance but it was really cool!
The duration of the performance was 90 minutes with a short interval break in-between. If you’ve never seen Stranger Things before, it would be a good idea to watch at least one season to get the jist of it, however I am pretty sure you could still enjoy the performance without having watched it on Netflix but some elements might not make a great deal of sense or be seen as funny without seeing the series.
I would LOVE to take the kids along to see this but I feel like mine are too young to really understand parodies – it’s definitely a show for the bigger kids. 🙂 The venue has a great location and the stage is set to be quite intimate, which I love.
What I didn’t love was how close all the seats are to each other – I am petite at only 5ft 1″ however I couldn’t sit straight without my knees digging into the back of the chair of the person in front. I had to sit with my legs to one side and the woman in front of my wasn’t too pleased every time I needed to reshuffle my legs to keep the blood circulating. Some people are just insensitive to others so I didn’t let her bad vibes affect me and my experience too much… that said though, I wouldn’t be keen in attending on a busy night where I couldn’t move around more freely.
Ticket prices are pretty decent from £20 per person however on Wednesdays and Sundays, The Vaults Theatre have started a ‘Pay What You Can’ sliding scale tariff on their ticket prices so if you’re experiencing financial difficulties with the cost of living crisis. See below the press release information about Stranger Sings!
“Join The Vaults underground (and upside-down) as The Vaults Theatre presents the award-winning, smash hit new parody musical, Stranger Sings! Straight from off-Broadway, this award-winning sci-fi spoof is a wild, irreverent twist on the hit Netflix series – in all its hair-raising, blockbuster glory. Take a trip with your favourite gang on a night of indulgent pop culture references, heavy synth, poor parenting, dancing demogorgons and maybe – just maybe – you might find justice for Barb along the way.
The Vaults’ first inhouse musical; a fearless parody with too many mullets, a generous helping of fairy lights, and where the 80s finally embraces feminism.”

PETER PAN’S LABYRINTH
Dates: Oct 18 – Dec 31
“You are formally invited to the goblin wedding of the year in this alternative comedy from The Vaults’ newest friends; The Sleeping Trees! Following an internet scam, Peter Pan left Neverland, and with it, left behind the lost boys, Tinkerbell and his youth. It’s now 2022 and Peter smokes, drinks and lives off a diet of creamed Possum (look it up) and Bovril.
Not wanting to go to Tink’s wedding looking like the target of a Huel advert, Peter goes in search of a solution to his ever-expanding gut and aggressive acid reflux. If rumours are to be believed, there is only one man with powers strong enough to restore him to his former glory; DAVID BOWIE. Who, as we all know, lives at the centre of the labyrinth.”
