The #ArtyProject: Update 1

You may remember a post I did almost two weeks ago on joining a wonderful new blog project called the #ArtyProject – it was started by two bloggers who shared a love for art and wanted to get back into the swing of creating something wonderful so the #ArtyProject was born.

The theme chosen to start of the series was ‘Beauty’ and we were allowed to choose any medium we wish and take it from any angle we liked as long as it is based on beauty. I gave you a sneaky peak in my first intro post (click here) on what direction I’ll be taking and now I can finally reveal what I have been up to since the project was started on April 3rd 2015.

Collages & Skteches
I love starting off all of my projects with collages from magazine cuttings and observational drawings or in this case a pen sketch.

The collage of natural faces are what I think beauty is all about. I think that being beautiful should mean to be natural and feel comfortable in your own ‘skin’. The models in the collages obviously have makeup on which is completely reasonable as the look is minimal and natural so it doesn’t look overdone. My beauty look is very similar – always natural and simple because (1) I like it that way and (2) I really don’t have the time for a full face of makeup and contouring on a daily basis.

The pen sketch is an observational drawing from a photo I have of myself. The text around the drawing are my personal thoughts on why I wear makeup and what make up means to me. I also talk about what is ‘beautiful’ in Asian culture; i.e. bigger eyes, lighter skin and higher noses are all facial qualities that the majority of Asians want to have and sometimes will turn to surgery to get that look to be “beautiful”. I would love to be able to paint something but I’m not a great painter so expect to see more sketches, photographs, and collages… maybe I will treat you guys to a painting if it’s good enough!

I haven’t picked up a paintbrush for over 6 years… maybe it’s time then, I guess

I did want to go down the route on body beautiful but I think I will see how it goes – like I said in my introductory post, I want my ideas to grow as I progress so nothing is set in stone – I want to let my ideas bloom and see what path it creates for itself instead. 🙂

Here’s another collage of some inspirational images for the next step in my project and a sneaky peek of what’s next to come.

  3. I love the idea 🙂 I agree, I think it’s best to just see where research takes you instead of having a set plan and sticking to it 🙂
